§ 2.88.100. Sick pay—Vacations.

Latest version.
  • After the completion of one year as a full-time employee or appointed or elected official, sick pay and vacations will be by calendar year thereafter. (Example: For all full-time employees or appointed or elected officials who complete one year or more of full-time employment in 1976, then January 1, 1977, will become their anniversary date and they will be allowed sick pay and vacation even though their real anniversary date may not be until later in the year 1977.)

    A.

Sick pay. Employees and appointed and elected officials of the municipality who work full-time for the municipality shall receive pay during unavoidable absence from work due to their sickness or accident during any one calendar year on the following basis:

    Length of
    Employment
    Full pay for
    Less than 6 months None
    Over 6 months 1 week
    Over 1 year 2 weeks
    Over 3 years 3 weeks
    Over 6 years 4.5 weeks
    Over 10 years 6 weeks
    Over 15 years 7.5 weeks

When payment is due to such employee under the workmen's compensation or pension laws, the amount received by reason of workmen's compensation or pension payments shall be deducted from the allowance above provided for.

Sick pay shall not be accumulative beyond any two-year period and immediately upon beginning of the third year, then the sick pay accumulation from the first year in the period shall be canceleed and terminated and be of no further force and effect. However, any allotted sick pay time which is not used by the employee shall be paid to the employee at the rate of ten dollars per day for each day not so used.

Notwithstanding the above, police officers shall be allowed to accumulate one thousand eighty hours of sick time, but in no event shall any police officer be entitled to accumulate more than one thousand eighty hours of sick time.

A statement shall be presented for each pay period in which an employee is absent for one full day or more, signed by a physician, certifying that such employee was unable to work due to sickness or accident, as the case may be.

    B.

Vacations. For all full-time employees, appointed officials and elected officials, vacations will be allowed for that calendar year with pay according to the following table:

Number of work weeks of vacation
    Less than 1 year None
    1 year to 5 years 2 weeks
    5 years to 10 years 3 weeks
    10 years to 15 years 4 weeks
15 years and over 5 weeks

Vacations will not be accumulative from one calendar year to another year without written approval of the employee's immediate supervisor and the mayor.

Selection of vacation shall be on a seniority basis subject to work load and service requirements as determined by each department supervisor.

Vacations of department supervisors must have the approval of the mayor.

If enough time does not exist in the calendar year when a vacation has accrued, it may be carried over to the next calendar year but must be used in the first three months of that calendar year or be forfeited.
