§ 2.48.035. Deputy chief.

  • There is created the office of deputy chief in the police department, and there shall be not more than two deputy chief positions within the police department at any time. The office of deputy chief shall be appointed by the chief of police. The deputy chief position shall be an exempt rank immediately below that of chief. Deputy chiefs may be appointed from any rank of sworn, full-time officers of the police department. A member of the police department appointed to a deputy chief position shall serve at the discretion of the chief of police and, if removed from the position of deputy chief, shall revert to the rank held immediately prior to appointment to the deputy chief position. The deputy chief shall have and fulfill those duties assigned by the chief of police.
